Honors & Awards
The AIAA San Diego Section would like to invite you to nominate some of your outstanding people for an AIAA award. A group of volunteers is organizing our annual Awards Banquet Gala where we present awards honoring the local aerospace community, outstanding projects from the San Diego Science Fair and the winners of our Reuben H. Fleet Scholarships.

The awards and the nomination procedure is described below. The nomination procedure is very informal. All we need is a brief description of the nominee and their accomplishments.

If you have someone in your charge, who is already competing for another award, it is perfectly acceptable to use that existing nomination package, verbatim. The same is true if you have submitted a nomination to us in the past.

The first five awards listed below are open to everyone. By all means, feel free to nominate people for the other five awards at the bottom of the list, but they are limited to AIAA members.

San Diego has a rich aerospace tradition. It is our duty and challenge to nourish and enhance this legacy of excellence for those who will follow. Along the way we should celebrate the people who have "made it happen." Please take the time to put pen to paper and showcase your great talent. Some past San Diego recipients of AIAA awards are listed below.

  • Preston Fleet
  • Krafft A. Ehricke
  • Bill Immenschuh
  • Ed Heinemann
  • Wally Schirra
  • Herman Altman
  • Ivan Getting
  • Doug Fronius
  • William T. Trainer, Capt, USN
  • Bradley Hallock
  • Jesus Wilson
